Bit of an unconventional/simplistic thread concept here, but I wanted to share some ideas I'd had for idents that could have been made for the 2001-2007 BBC2 ident range. I really like the personality 2s; the initial narrow range (4) did undermine the series, but they were really great I think.
Anyway, here are the concepts:
Domino Fall
A variant of Domino: instead of the comedic payoff, the domino falls the right way, triggering a chain reaction. This would help retain viewers' attention - which way would the domino fall?
Lights
Upon a click of its fingers, the 2 turns its yellow backdrop pitch black. The 2 itself glows amber, partially illuminating its surroundings.
Lights Sombre
A news-safe variant of the above; the sequence begins midway through, with the backdrop already black and the 2 already glowing.
Juggle
The 2 attempts to juggle little 2s. Eventually, they land on its head.
Train
The 2 enters the scene by riding a model train (with no track), and continues riding the train around the scene, eventually waving at the viewer. The opening four-note jingle is played out on a train's whistle.
Levitate
Another news-safe, simplistic ident. The 2 begins to levitate as it gets very slowly lifted up towards the top of the screen by an unknown force.
Torch
The 2 searches a darkened scene using a searchlight emitted from its 'head'. Eventually, it finds and illuminates what it's been looking for: the BBC Two logo in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
Hallowe'en (Special Ident)
The 2 appears wearing a set of fake fangs under its 'head' and wearing a vampire cape. The opening four-note jingle is played on a theremin or on a theatrical organ.
