I don't know about anyone else but out of the main four BBC channels it's BBC 2 that I can be see best been split up and shared amongst the other 3. I think 1,3 and 4 have have a personality. You know what you get with them and what sort of shows would be on them. BBC 2 just seems lost to me. I would have BBC One as it is - BBC Three leading comedy, live events, sport and documentary - BBC Four would lead with arts and science with drama series that were on 2. Splitting BBC 2 into three will make the other 3 channels stronger and create 3 different channels.

I largely agree. But, in terms of station names, it would perhaps have to be something like: the current "Three's" content would move to LCN 2 and retain the "Two" name, and the current "Four" would be renamed "Three" (perhaps also retaining its current LCN, to avoid too much viewer confusion). The current "Three's" vacant LCN (e.g. Freeview 7) would perhaps eventually be occupied by something or other (non-BBC), but first would need to remain empty for long enough to allow viewers to get the hint and their habits to change accordingly.

With suitably "high brow" looking idents & pres, and retaining its existing LCN and programme schedule/content, any confusion caused by the renaming of "Four" to "Three" wouldn't last long. Similarly, the old "Three's" LCN could perhaps broadcast a holding caption redirecting viewers to LCN 2, for a short period (a few days? a week?) after the closure. The new "Two" would have suitably funky/dynamic/"yoof"-style idents & pres, to feel recognisably like the old "Three".

BBC2's identity is a confused mess but its primetime programming is the strongest it's been in years, its problem is it is inevitably treated as a feeder channel for BBC One.

Conversely, this helps ensure a steady stream of new ideas, not all of which are successful but they have had particularly strong, distinctly "BBC2" drama and documentary series recently. And Bake Off.

Oh and the comedy roll of House of Fools followed by Inside No. 9 this year, which may be responsible for my kinder outlook.
Cavan and Blake Connolly gave kudos
