I've just been told that BBC World (and News 24 to a lesser extent) nearly fell of the air this morning. The air conditioning unit, which cools all of the broadcast critical computer equipment, failed, with the temperature rising to nearly 42 degrees! At World, the computers were failing one-by-one during the 08.00 bulletin, and eventually they had to abandon N9, and move to N6 (the national studio). Apparently, the 09.00 summary nearly didn't go out, and Pres was prepared to play out an earlier bulletin. They got hold of an industrial fan, which managed to lower the temperature, and they managed to put the 09.00 summary out live.
Not sure how much News 24 was affected - does anyone have any more info on that?
