BBC Three to piggyback CBeebies

Simple solution, CBBC goes back to closing at 7pm (surely cant be that many viewers for their 7pm-9pm programming anyway), then THREE starts at 7pm as per usual.

Even if on some days THREE shows more 'grown up' CBBC stuff in the 7pm slot here and there...gets the CBBC viewers (who are the next generation THREE viewers anyway) onto the THREE channel/into the THREE brand, who might then stick with THREE when they grow up.

BBC Three showed signs of doing that a few years ago when a series of Wolfblood was repeated at 7pm. However what else could they show in the 7-9 slot? Just about all of what they now commission seems to be of the post-watershed variety. They always used to struggle to fill that timeslot anyway - looking at some schedules from 2015, nearly every weekday evening seems to comprise the same line-up - repeats of Top Gear followed by repeats of Don't Tell the Bride.

Anyway, the Digital Spy thread on this is suggesting that Broadcast have removed the line about CBeebies, presumably having realised that it makes no sense whatsoever.

I mean personally I'd like to see the return of The Real Hustle but I'm sure that's more out of nostalgia than anything else...

Think I’ve said it before, but I’d rename CBBC as BBC Three and run it all day and night, taking in current CBBC programming during the day and Three programming at night. That way the ‘handover’ doesn’t need to exist at a set time as evening can include content from both.

They'd have to say goodbye to their positions in the children's sections of the EPGs if they did that and wanted to keep BBC Three's programming (there's no post-watershed time on children's channels).

CBeebies occasionally has links encouraging six-year-olds to start moving along to CBBC. I'm not sure I want to see one where the presenter is telling Dodge the Dog that Fleabag is on later.

This will be the BBC going back to the days of CBBC on Choice and BBC Choice all over again.

What red button slots are there left these days? Surely it makes more sense to shut one of those down from 9pm and use that for BBC Three?

I don't think there's any reason you couldn't have a "CBBC on THREE" segment from 7pm-9pm with slightly older targetted programming, visible from both the CBBC LCN and a BBC Three LCN.

I like this idea, maybe start with programmes more older-skewing on CBBC at 7pm, then have an iPlayer exclusive like Flatmates or something at 7.30pm and then have Doctor Who or HDM at 8pm.

With a split channel arrangement presumably the channel switching doesn't have to be fixed at the same time each day, so could be say 9pm in the week and 7pm at weekends, with the option for CBBC to finish earlier on days in the week if a live event justifies the 7pm slot for BBC3.

Indeed, BBC Alba does that - different start and end times at the weekend and occasional early starts for sport and events

I think if BBC THREE does come back it will be at 9pm as the programmes are mainly post watershed. As for the same LCN as CBeebies or CBBC, that is a non starter as you cannot broadcast post watershed programmes on a children's LCN. I seem to remember BBC FOUR having to be closed at 9pm a long time ago as the switching from CBeebies did not work on Freeview and therefore after 9 BBC FOUR programmes could not be broadcast. LCN 99 would be good for BBC THREE.

It has done for quite some time now. (I guess it’s their social media team’s way of coping.)
