It's perfectly possible to put a DOG in the HD feed and not in the SD feed (and control it's removal and insertion via automation) in a combined playout area... Nothing to stop you having an HD DSK (or similar) under automation control in the HD playout chain post-SD downconversion.

It is, but the DOG insertion can be at any point in the chain, pre or post the point where the two feeds go off to their respective distribution. The C4 HD DOG obviously doesn't appear on C4SD

I think it's just a variant - the actual episode of Drag Race UK had the existing square logo at the start.

I suspect they've discovered that for advertising purposes, the boxed BBC II! logo might not mean anything to some people, so felt the need to spell it out to make things more obvious.

You can get away without text in a logo when a brand has become iconic and universally recognisable like the Nike tick and the McDonalds golden arches, but I think the II! has a long way to go before it reaches that status.

The II! has always been animated into a stylised THREE.

I saw this on a billboard this morning and was going to mention it - just what is the point of having a logo that you can't use because no one will understand what it means??

Really they should just be done with it - admit defeat and reinstate the word THREE to the logo.

No, it hasn't. The font used there is what they use in their trails, but originally they used Arial. It's been around for a while, but not right from when the II! logo was introduced.

I'm almost certain there was some sort of 'mini rebrand' where the new font was introduced, maybe like a year after the online switchover?

The main thing I remember is the new font and that the colour-ways had funny names.
