The shot of the 'stars' dancing on the ident is very quick, who is the woman to the left of Alexander Armstrong?

It's Alex Jones.

I first saw part of the Christmas 2011 BBC1 ident this morning, whilst watching my video recording of last night's Strictly Come Dancing semi-final. A bit early to start using it I say, next Saturday 17 December would have been plenty early enough for its first appearance. Do they really need to start using it on the 10 December?

I can remember back in the 70s and early 80s, the Christmas BBC idents premiered on Christmas Eve, or perhaps the preceding Saturday i.e. 23 December in years when Christmas Day was a Monday.

I haven't seen what BBC2 or any of the other BBC channels are using for Christmas this year. Are BBC2 using the Magic Forest and Magic Sprite idents, which were first used in 2007, for the fifth Christmas running. What about BBC4, are they using the snow scene yet again?

there's a separate thread for what BBC2 have done this year.

If only there was some sort of forum with multiple threads detailing such things.

But no you carry on using it as your one-way diary, I'm sure we all appreciate it.

He should have? Maybe he didn't because he didn't want to be an arse about it.

Yes, and anyway the pause on YouTube is too vague to ascertain her exact racial profile.... I can only just work out she's a woman.

Anyway, anyone know?

From looking at the list of people on the promo, I think it's Sunetra Sarker from Casualty (I don't watch it so can't say for sure).

EDIT: David got there first Smile

Can't help thinking the cake ident is a touch insensitive during a period of austerity.

The news ident is just a mess. Why defocus the background? Defocusing has become increasingly pervasive among television programmes too, particularly documentaries. Have we all lost our natural sense of depth perception recently?

Love the Gruffalo ident, even if it does seem a bit incongruous.
