I notice that the logo isn't revealed via its usual trademark swirl animation, instead it simply fades in. Odd that they've omitted a key brand device and I see no reason for doing so.

I realise that the outer swirl lines are created by the sleigh but the letters could still have 'rolled' on without these.
Being picky I know.
The Wallace and Gromit one last year didn't do it's trademark swirl animation either, it just appeared on screen. Anyway I seen the Doctor Who ident and it looks great I wondered how they would make it Christmassy and more importantly how it would fit in with the "Circle" theme and now I know. Can't wait to see it on air.
The other two idents that do not use the swirl motif already have the logo in place (W&G and Bang Goes The Theory). The difference between those and the Doctor Who ident is that the latter has the opportunity to use it but instead it fades in. Although I can see your point about it looking more cinematic without it.
I'm not a Doctor Who fan at all, but that is a brilliant ident, can't wait to see it on-screen, it's certainately the best Christmas ident of the Circles era so far IMO.
