BBC One Christmas 2009 - Doctor Who ident revealed

I like the music for the Doctor Who ident - nice and jolly - but probably a bit too jolly for introducing news programmes, so there'll probably be a more serious variant.

As said here would also be good to have a night time version.

Oh well, ticks all the boxes for me - the background in the holding shot is lovely. Glad to see a long form-up and the music sounds great. To me it beats all the previous Christmas idents from the current brand.

Yes I think children on bouncy puddings leading into news reports on the tsunami in Thailand was a wake up call. Did Penguins ever lead into the news at Christmas?

And I'm shocked to hear myself say that an ident featuring a sci fi programme has managed to feel more festive and be better than the Wallace and Gromit one we had last year.

Now I wonder if Blue Peter will do a behind the scenes on this?

I've watched the new ident twice and I'm tired of it already.
