Perhaps this then!
Whilst renaming the channel is a non-starter IMO, giving greater emphasis to the BBC logo in any future rebrand would probably be of some benefit.

ITV found it very easy to change to ITV1 also down to the fact the concept of the name ITV being used nationally didn't really kick in until the 1999 rebranding.
ITV was usually never the name of the channel, it was usually whichever ITV company you were living in.
For example, back in the 70s and 80s, people living in Manchester would not say what is on ITV tonight, they would say what is on Granada tonight?
So the ITV to ITV1 change was very easy for them to make, as there was not real sentimental attachment to the name ITV as a channel name compared to BBC One, which had been used since April 1964.

A lot more people refer to the BBC as an entity, whereas more often than not, I find people refer are just referring to the channel when they mention ITV. It'd be a bit like renaming Sky One as simply Sky (yes yes, I know, Sky Channel etc).

It’s probably easier for ITV as that at least has the word Television in it so it would really need to be BBC TV. It’s a no from me.

Yes it does. It existed on its own for 28 years before it was rebranded as BBC One!
Well, it was technically the BBC Television Service!
The big difference with BBC1 and ITV1 is that BBC1 is on channel 1 (or 101) on all TVs. ITV1 has never had such a link.
BBC One also works because they have a BBC Two as a second public channel and don't have a past as a heterogeneous entity, unlike ITV.

Officially, yeah, but the idents didn't use the full name. The Batwing ident just said BBC, the next two said BBC tv, and then the one in use when they became BBC 1 also just said BBC on it.

ITV spent most of its existence being known by local names until about the late 80's - and then the 2000's the ITV name was introduced, and only then did it become ITV 1.
So arguably the name didn't get much time to bed in, where as BBC One has been around since the 60's, when BBC Two was first introduced.
