Won't that be confusing, advertising a BBC Three show with a specific timeslot? Of course, that's because the programme was really on BBC One.

This kind of garbage is why they need to kill the BBC Three brand and focus on making good programmes for younger viewers.

when Killing Eve is iPlayer despite also really being BBC Three too?

Series 1 of Killing Eve was a BBC3 show, Series 2 onwards have been BBC1 and iPlayer.

The Three brand is so worthless I was not aware.

Couldn’t disagree more about the Three brand. It’s way more of a brand than 1, 2 or 4.

Yes, good point. If you ask yourself “who BBC Three is for?” it’s a lot easier to answer than with any of the other channels. Not that it’s possible to make all the channels that focused but it certainly has the strongest identity even if it’s not a proper channel at the moment.

Exactly the same as they do with the BBC3 programmes after the news then, just an unusually early slot for a "BBC3" show. IIRC the DOG though only appears on either SD or HD, not on both.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. I found it quite odd that the BBC3 DOG only appears on HD. CBBC did the same thing with a movie once in Christmas 2017 or 18 I can't remember. But I find the practice quite odd.

Think that's something to do with how BBC One HD uses a DOG-playout system, which was equipped when the channel launched back in 2010.

Yes, the DOG was there until the 2012 olympics, went during the olympics, came back a few days after they were over, then went for good a few days later.

Indeed, here is Noggin explaining how it works.

Just because BBC One SD and BBC One HD share a playout chain doesn't mean that they have to look identical.

It's perfectly possible to put a DOG in the HD feed and not in the SD feed (and control it's removal and insertion via automation) in a combined playout area... Nothing to stop you having an HD DSK (or similar) under automation control in the HD playout chain post-SD downconversion.

Although the whole playout and distribution infrastructure has been replaced since 2012, and the way the logo bugs* are put on the screen is done totally differently.

The ability to put them on the channels has existed long before HD. It was a regular feature overnights on BBC Two from the late 90s and of course both BBC One and Two Digital had them from launch

Yes, it definitely would make sense to have a BBC One, Two and Four without a BBC Three. Rolling Eyes

Which is the situation we're currently in. BBC Three is just the name of a strand of unrelated programmes that sometimes get broadcast on BBC One, but often just get left online. Bit like BBC Sport or Inside Out. It's certainly not a channel.

"Just get left online" as if no one watches telly on the internet.
