In a way it's a shame as Granada has lost a lot of it's good presenters go, most male such as....

Mike Scott (the first to announce on Granada and thus on television in the UK, the shooting of JFK)

Well if Fred can't do weather anymore, why is that old guy at Tyne Tees still doing it? He's not part of the GMG Weather team. Do Tyne Tees make them weather maps up, or do Yorkshire still do them, but its sent to Tyne Tees for the old Guy bob to record the weather? Its just that the names are bigger than the maps at Yorkshire shown on Granada, Border and YTV.

I was under the impression Granada used to not have any in-vision presenter before Leeds took over, so did Fred actually used to do proper sensible forecasts at one time?

Erm, I'm afraid this just will not do. Bob Johnson is a legend, and I shall not have him reffered to as 'that old guy at Tyne Tees'. He is very capable; not only does he make his own weather maps, but he can also dance for small lifestyle features at the end of North East Tonight. Those miserable sods in Leeds a) can't and b) wouldn't even if they could. Bob also makes amusing phrases with placenames, so he wins hands down.

That is true, Granada (North West) only introduced IVC Weather some time last year, but Fred used to read the weather out on Granada Tonight, but at all other times it was read by the continuity announcer, when they were still at Manchester, or usually someone like Jon Mitchell read it out until last year.

Yes Bob is a legend I noticed one of his forecasts today as it happens, as I tuned to see if Tyne Tees were still running what seems like a cut down version of Wellbeing, permanently every Thursday at 2.30 since god knows when.
Jon Mitchell and the YTV lot used to do the funny place names thing, though they wern't as silly as the ones Bob comes out with, I don't know why they don't anymore

Don't forget Fred used to leap around on the weather map in the ALbert Dock when This Morning came from Liverpool.

Don't forget his catchphrase: 'And what have we got for tonight?'

Has he retired now?

Yep you are quite right - Granada weather outside Granada Tonight was read over a slide by the continuity annoucers, then with the transfer to Leeds, the Yorkshire weather team, eg Debbie and Jon. It was a strange set-up, with invision weather on all the other Granada franchises, I wonder what their reasoning was?

In Granada Tonight, Fred presented the weather, sometimes in the studio, but more often than not on location. Indeed he did have the legendary catchphrase "and what have we got for tonight...well..."
He always used a weather picture and wore a Giles Brandreth TVam style jumper.

He's still working for Granada, the team at the Granada Blackburn newsroom produce features for him, though he hasnt been on screen for a while.

BTW- Does anyone have any footage they could upload of Stuart Hall presenting North West Tonight with John Munday, from the bonking worms title era. And any footage of "Greaves and Hall", a feature when Stuart Hall worked on Granada Tonight for a while.

Fred was on Granada Reports (Minus the Brandreth jumper) doing a OB probably from the Granada Roof where he was set the challenge to see if he can cook an egg on the street, which he almost did.

Note this was during the heatwave.

BTW As Paul Crone is going over all of the North West, has anyone managed to see him? I knew that they were in Culceth the other day. Though I might pop down when they are at Appleton.
