I always thought that the primary function of the BBC News Channel is to present the News?

The Whitney Houston Funeral, whilst an important part of the news agenda, deserved no greater coverage than any other story from the day.

So because the BBC and Sky were doing a crappy job at broadcasting the news, I watched Aljazeera, and it was excellent.

For the record i think the words "The" and "Channel" should be banned from appearing as bookends to the words: "BBC News"

Was it even that? I hardly think the funeral of a singer is that important or interesting especially one that hasn't really been in the public conciousness for years. It's the sort of coverage you give to the death of a former head of state or politician

Sad as it was for her fans, how many of them would actually want to sit through a 4 hour funeral ceremony? The rest of us certainly wouldn't. I think it's was a big mistake to go with it for so long, it was certainly a question of 'everyone else is doing it so we should too'

To be honest, I don't think Whitney Houston cares. They definitely should have just done some highlights at the end of a bulletin rather than full coverage.
