I actually really liked that set and camera shots.

Each to there own, I think that’s absolutely horrid.. the drinks trolley desk is totally out of proportion, and that 3 shot is borderline illegal it’s that bad...

I always found it different at the time. The opening title music was brill.

Ooh that horrible screeching music? No thanks! Smile

East Midlands ironing board anyone?

How about Points West perching their newsreaders on some bar stools and a converted drinks trolley? Complete with some edgy shots right up Susan Osman’s nose.

Why have I never seen this set before, it's straight in a number two replacing the South Today News Cafe in absurd BBC regional sets. Obv the East Midlands Today Laundrette cannot be surpassed.

I think they inherited the set from BBC Three's 7 O'Clock News programme when it was axed.

The music wasn't a David Lowe creation ISTR, a nice track but a bit long for regional news titles.

The set structure, walls etc looked quite smart but the furniture looks wacky and tacked on.

It really did sound like a car alarm going off! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rQqRmwl8wY
South Today and chris gave kudos

Superb! It was certainly radical from the look introduced in 2002.

It sounds like the noise that plays on a misplaced iPhone when you use the 'Play Sound' feature

Both had similar setups with mirrors in strategic places to give more depth than there really was; the EM Ironing Board really was innovative though. The well placed glass of water for the autocue control a stroke of genius.

I saw Reporting Scotland for the first time in a while on Friday night, and I'm really not a fan. The desk is clearly the star of the show, it gets so much airtime. The presenter sometimes in front, behind, to the side, sometimes the laptop's open, sometimes closed.

As for the 'new' camerawork, it's like someone's watched some 2001 episodes of Liquid News and used that as inspiration, but failed in execution. In this example, is the priority to frame Sally properly - or ensure the BBC building is kept in shot?

Is it me or is the camera actually pulling away from the presenter?

What's this zoom in all about?

Maybe it will get better, I found it all quite distracting. I also dislike the lighting reflecting on that metal bar above the screens.

Some technical issues with tonight’s Reporting Scotland Confused

It seems to be with the autocue where Sally has started to read the upcoming sport story as part of the ‘news in brief’ before returning to the studio (with football graphics behind her) and she mentions about having to be a “midget” to see the autocue.

Quick search on Twitter shows some people unhappy and mentioning a “discriminatory slur” which I’m not going to get involved with but here’s the video from another tweet...

She then apologised for not being able to name check for the previous few stories due to “technical problems” - I imagine she’s meaning while introducing the stories?

Wouldn’t go as far as some of the tweets you can search yourself but there have been a few occasions where there have been technical difficulties and her response hasn’t been the best - which is odd because apart from that she’s great!

To be fair, it seemed like a lot was going wrong here but I felt she could’ve handled it a bit better.

And not the first time either....
