I think Newsround still cover serious topics, but the presentation of it is definitely more relaxed. They have to appeal more to their audience now because there's more competition. Gone are the days of just CBBC and CITV.

The two presenters thing I think is as simple as, they're both in the office anyway making VTs during the day so they may as well both do the main bulletin together, it's not like it costs more money.

And yes, Newsround looked SO much better in the North West Tonight studio.

I agree on that. Maybe they could move Newsround into the NWT Studio as it didn't seem to affect the Main NWT Bulletin.

There's been a slow decline terms of the way they present the news over the years. After John Craven, with people like Juliet Morris & Krishnan Guru-Murphy, it seemed to be a very serious news programme, just with the emphasis of simplifying the stories for the younger audience. This imo continued through Julie Etchingham, Chris Rogers, Kate Gerbeau (nee Sanderson), and Lizo Mzimba (when not reviewing Harry Potter), then started to shift somehow with Becky Jago & Ellie Crisell, and has continued to present day, where they don't seem to be that serious at all.
Maybe it's the problem as we grow ever older, and a use of rose tinted glasses, or maybe its just how society has progressed.

Don't forget that they changed the official target audience for CBBC and hence Newsround to be considerably younger a few years ago, so you can't really do a direct comparison.

I haven't seen NR for a while, but have they fixed the keying/matting on the screens? Last few times I've caught it there was a nasty jagged outline around inserts.

No. It actually looks like an SD source upscaled to fill a video wall. Particularly noticable on the BBC One broadcast in HD.

That may be the case - but the perception (and that's important) is they're wasting two folk on a seven minute bulletin - plus frankly for such a short bulletin having two presenters actually makes it feel rather cluttered rather than "friendlier".

Seconded and thirded. Newsround would work really well presented from NWT's red sofa, with NR colours on the set.
