My understanding is that while Covid closed the studio, the reason it is staying mothballed is about driving additional cost efficiencies from the studio operations. In which case, no I'm not expecting them to go back to B - in the foreseeable future at least. Who knows in a few years time when there are different objectives driving decisions.

I wonder whether at some point in the future it might be possible to have at least some of the cameras & tracks mounted to the ceilings in Studio B as per the new Wales news studio. That way they can be remotely operated whilst retaining some flexibility in the studio by not having camera tracks fitted to the floor.

Depends on the loading of the ceiling. I would imagine it would be fine, but it’s certainly not guaranteed.
When Sky built Studio 21/Glass Box, the ceiling had to be designed specifically to support the weight of the four slung cameras, on top of the weight of the lighting grid.

It would be great to see - it could create a space that is both really flexible and really automated in different scenarios.

Unfortunately I can't imagine there is much appetite for the expense that it would create given the BBC appear to have found alternative solutions for what used to come from B...

Persian's bulletins start on the half hour due to the +3'.30" timezone in Iran. It doesn't do bulletins overnight, at 22:30 gmt it's 02:00 in Iran so it's not an issue

I'd have thought it's just that the schedules were published before the change of studio was finalised

I would expect it to be back for election night

I expect it will be back in regular use again (even if far less than it used to be) once the coronaviris issues have gone away. At the moment the benefits of restricting the amount of spaces in use and amount of people needed to operate them far outweigh the benefits of having a big studio available. That balance will change many times over the lifetime of NBH, so I very much doubt we have seen the last of it.

Chris Cook says Studio B is closed forever. This must be due to the BBC News cuts, not Coronavirus. It's a real shame and makes my blood boil when you look at the money spent on the new BBC Wales studios. How can regional TV have better studios than national?

I do like the look of 54D though - I wonder if they are allowed to light up All Saints in Newsnight purple & blue!!?
