ITV has revealed that the new regional London ITV news service will be run by the former news editor of Channel 4 breakfast flop Rise. Stuart Thomas has been named editor for the service, which will be called ITV London News Service when it relaunches in the spring. The new outfit is formed from the merger of London News Network and ITN's London news team.
What would happen to people like Lucy Alexander and Anna-Marie Ashe? Would they continue to present London News? I actually prefer Katie Derham to Mary Nightingale, but Katie should stick to national news programmes as she is very good.
To be honest I prefer Katie Derham as a newsreader than Mary Nightingale, as she always sounds like she's going to cry, plus Katie and Mark make a good team on the Evening News. Though I guess this isn't the first time that a popular national reader will go to regional news, such as Alastair Stewart (ITN to LNN) and Philip Hayton (Main BBC News to North West Tonight)

Fiona Armstrong is now on Border's local news.
Years ago, Andrew Gardner, ex News at Ten went to Thames at Six/Thames News and Cliff Michelmore, ex Tonight, was briefly on Southern's Day by Day. Oh and Michael Aspel, ex BBC News went to the Six O'Clock Show, (though I'm not sure you could call that a regional news programme)
Any more news on when the new service is likely to launch?
According to forums all I have heard is April, though nothing has been confirmed yet.
Really I didn't see any need for LT to change its opening titles and graphics last week, it would be a better idea if they changed the titles when they move to ITN, then it would be an all in one relaunch.
Forgive me if it has been mentioned but is ITV Weather moving to ITN? Or are they staying at The London Studios?
It would be nice if the itv weather moved to ITN, as they could have the weather forecasters in the itv news studio using the wall instead of a little screen for the weather on the news channel, and if successful have them as part of the main itv1 news bulletins.
They would just do what GMTV do introduce the weather, have the sponsership sting and into the weather report.
It would work as it does currently on the news channel, and if the main itv1 bulletins adopted it, after the regioanl bulletins (or final story in the case of the evening news) they would have the weather before a recap of the days headlines.
The sponsership would the presenter time to get onto the stage from the side of the set. The onlt problem would be wires from the clickers (or whatever they are called, or can you get them wireless?).
I think LNN had to relaunch when they did, to fit in with the new itv news branding.
As for the national weather, that's still going to be recorded in LNN's London TV Centre studio, for the next few months or so at least. Don't forget that the weather have other clients besides ITV, so they may have a whole load of contractual and ergonomic issues there.
LNN are currently considering if they can turn the weather recording process into a 1 person technical operation. The current minimum required is 2 people.
I gather that the Daily Mail last week said that Katie Derham is going to be the presenter of the new London news programme as Mary Nightingale had "won" the battle to be top dog on the Evening News.
Can't quite see Katie accepting being relegated to regional news somehow!
London News Network managing director Denise Harker has announced that she will be leaving the company after 12 years. She joined the company when it launched in 1992 as finance director and became managing director five years ago. The London news service provider LNN is being moved over to ITN before it relaunches on 1 March.
Also, it seems that the two London operations are being effectively merged:
Quote:
In a further development, LWT managing director Christy Swords has taken additional control of the Carlton weekday London franchise from managing director Coleena Reid after Ofcom allowed the two licences to be bolted together. Swords, who has a twin role as ITV plc director of regulatory affairs, will now control all of ITV's London's regional output.

Who else do they produce the weather for?
I thought it was just itv1 national weather bulletins, every half hour on the itv news channel and as part of london today/tonight.
