MeteoGroup have some experience in TV forecasts as they also provide them for Channel 4 and Sky News.

The weather may be changeable in the UK, but BBC Weather will continue to provide the best possible weather information service across television, radio and digital based on timely and accurate forecast information.

As many of you know, our contract with the Met Office is coming to an end so over the last year we have been assessing a number of organisations to determine which can best shape our weather coverage for the future. Today I’m extremely pleased to say that our new partner will be MeteoGroup.

We know our viewers, listeners and users expect a high quality weather service from the BBC to help make decisions daily, from what to wear to what to do.

Correct me if Im wrong..I think I am. Aren't BBC "Meteorologists" employees of MetOffice contracted to the BBC? I cant remember the strange arrangement.

Most employed by the Met Office, but as you'd expect them to effectively be made redudant due to their role no longer being available via the Met Office the BBC will look to take them on directly.

Interesting that the graphics used for the weather will change, I thought they were keeping the same system but with different supplier of data.

Unless the backend is staying the same but the style is changing

They're probably due a refresh anyway - they've been on air a good decade now.

Unless the graphic design for the weather symbols are copyrighted to the BBC and Met Office, so they have to change. Unless of course, in the tender, the BBC requested a new graphics style from the new supplier, to get away from the Met Office completely.

The weather symbols are solely BBC owned.

I would imagine the usual TUPE arrangements will come into play.

I have little doubt that the presenters will TUPE across to the new providers, but I'm not sure TUPE absolutely has to apply in this case.

TUPE doesn't apply as the Met Office, their employer isn't continuing the business, it's coming to an end. If the Met Office had sub-contracted the service to Meteogroup it would have applied. Having been similarly affected it's the Met Office's problem not the BBC's.
