Nice to Alexandra back on the bulletins! Let's hope that she is here to stay for a little while.

With regards to presenting I hope that they reduce the amount that Lucrezia presents, she's not that bad but if you compare her shoebox reports to when she presents she is so much more enthusiastic. Sometimes I find that when she presents the 6pm she is very quite.

Despite Mrs Hill's connections to the new ITV News editor, it's very unlikely considering Lucrezia is staff and Alexandra is freelance. In any case, LM is third choice for the 6pm after Charlene.

A fault just now with the London bulletin. The screen went blank and we were treated to the weather in the Meridian region.

Not the first time that's happened. I remember earlier in the year we were treated to Simon Parkin with the Meridian West forecast during This Morning.

I'm not sure if we went back to London afterwards. After the Meridian weather sponsor sting, it went seamlessly in to the ITV ident back to This Morning. Can they switch from region to region seamlessly with no break in picture these days?

I've watched it on ITV+1 London. We get the Meridian sponsor sting, the start of the Meridian West bulletin, picture goes blank, then returns to the Meridian bulletin, sponsor, then back into TM.

It's probably a switching error at the southern ITV playout centre in Chiswick which handles ITV London and Meridian. It's common for the northern regions to get the wrong weather.

Well they both come from the same technical infrastructure in the same building so I don't see why it shouldn't be seamless

If by "these days" you mean the last 20+ years.... synchronisers were introduced in (I think) the 80s which use a frame buffering technique to get a non-sync source into sync with the mixer by adding a slight delay to get it in sync.

Before that a sync cut could be arranged with some pre-planning to get the outside source in sync - the BBC had a system called NATLOCK which would make sure that regional contributions coming in to Nationwide were synchronised with the Lime Grove studio.

Erm, is there any particular reason why they sent the weather presenter to do the weather live from Trafalger Square by the Mandela tributes? Granted the rest of the programme was done from there but the weather?!

He explained how the weather seemed to change for the better when his death was announced last night while the camera panned over shots of flowers before saying "Not quite South African sunshine this weekend but at least it will be milder," followed by a very cheesy grin.

Appropriate.

Natasha Kaplinsky presented the Sunday evening bulletin instead of the duty ITV News lunchtime presenter, who was Alexandra Hill.
