Good Morning Members

I notice by viewing the various regional ITV News programmes that ITV Border / ITV Westcountry for some reason do not use the animated corporate ITV News strapline (if thats what you call it ?) you know, the graphic that comes on the screen with the reporters name etc. I.E. lucy kite reporting

It just fades on the screen & off the screen, doesnt animate across the screen from left to right like the other regions, i just wondered if anybody out there knows the reason why these two regions dont have the animation ?

On a different subject, i wonder if ITV Channel will ever have the generic ITV News studio set like the other areas of the country ?

I look forward to answers or ideas on these two topics anybody has

Thank you

Kind regards

Good afternoon and warmest greetings to you, member michaelgrantchapman1 and to all other TV Forum members reading this.

In response to your query, I would imagine Border and Westcountry don't have the same kit capable of animating their astons as the other regions do.

I hope this answers your question. May I take this opportunity to thank you for using TV Forum.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Spencer.

The strange thing is that on Lookaround 'Specials' they have every few months the astons do animate. But they don't on the normal Lookaround.

maybe they get a competent region, like tyne tees, to produce them for them

Could someone more technically-minded explain to me why Westcountry or Border don't have the capability of generating animated captions? You or I could produce them easily enough, probably even with software that came pre-loaded on a bog-standard PC from Currys.

I think you'll find that graphics machines used to create and animate captions for broadcast television come a little more sophisticated (and expensive) than free software on a PC from Currys. Rolling Eyes

But that was my point - is there any genuine reason these days why they need to be?

Because your belief that you could do a similar or as good a job on a PC from Currys is mistaken! And anyway, machines that do captions also do a lot more.

Whilst you can create static graphics on any computer, outputting them in a form that can overlay onto television pictures requires professional equipment.

My company own machines like this. They are a few years old and cannot create animated graphics. I suspect the ITV region you are talking about is in the same boat.

Its that simple, really.

Possibly, although ironically when Tyne Tees actually had the resources to be able to churn out decent amounts of material their newsroom caption generator also wasn't capable of animating graphics, dating as it did to the early 1990s.
