You know that new news theme Seven brought in and then had to ditch because everyone hated it? I liked it...

Here's my all-time favourite. Wish I knew who wrote it - and, more to the point - whose copyright it is!!!

That was from my tape Wink I remember moving back to Australia as a kid from England and being amazed by this package. It's my favourite too. I believe it was done in-house at Ten. Interestingly, it perfectly matches the "10" ident of 1989, although it actually started during the previous "TEN X" era of 1988.

Also from my tapes:

Ten Eyewitness News, 1989

I have some info on this, but it's not much. My music teacher at school in Sydney in late 1990 told us he was going to Channel 10 one afternoon - as part of an orchestra - to record a new news theme. Of course, as a teenage Channel 10 'tragic', this piqued my interest! What is intriguing, though, is that Ten didn't actually change its news theme in late 1990, or 1991, or any year until 1995. So I have always thought he was referring to the "T-E-N That's Entertainment" idents and promo package, which did premiere in early 1991, or that his "news theme" was shelved. Either way, my school music teacher (and his associates) had an association with Ten in 1990, and could well have produced the previous news theme in 1988.

The only other name strongly associated with Ten News music after that was the son of famous Indian-Australian songman Kamahl. A very quick Google search finds that his name is Rajan Kamahl.

Jun 18, 2010 - There are a bunch of other News Theme remixes on YouTube. Here is TEN News theme (which was actually composed by Kamahl's son).

I'm not sure if this counts but I always like the pres and music of News 39, News 44, and News 45

They were short 15 minute bulletins reporting the news of 50 years ago today, made to commemorate the start of WWII, D-Day, and VE.

Interesting how they kept the continuity between the series going, considering the first and last series were made 6 years apart.

The 1993 re-recording wasn't so great, though.

I don't think anyone's mentioned the YTV Calendar theme from the '70s yet:

Stunning! I like everything about all of these. Especially the closing music of 39.

And a reminder of just how great Lawley was.
