CNN International & Domestic

Yep I did like Kyra and her gaffes were always quite funny and Suzanne Malveaux also had a bit of gravitas about her I thought.
These days all the CNN Domestic output just seems to blend into one - I'd struggle to tell you how the content of Newsroom or 'CNN Right Now' (what sort of name is that for a show anyway) is any different from Outfront or AC360 whereas pre-Zucker I definetely remember that your average Newsroom bulletin had a different feel to say AC360.

Now it's all pundits all about Washington all the time. It's not news. Ten years ago, CNN Domestic during the day would at least ostensibly cover a range of topics with reporters, PKGs, and actual analysis. Even AC360 stood out by purportedly going in depth and doing investigative pieces. They don't really do any of that now.

Back then, CNN Domestic still did the pundit stuff and went heavy on politics if it was an election year, but it wasn't the same panel on the same topic 24 hours a day like it is now.

Edit: credit where credit is due, Early Start is still a true newscast format. But that's about it.

Then came Fox News -- and we know the rest of the story.

CNNI’s Rosemary Church had to abandon a LIVE newscast just now after suffering a migraine attack. Those are horrible things indeed.

How was it handled on air? Did they go to another anchor?

Some quite exceptional reporting by Nima Elbagir on child abuse in the catholic church. She's superb and it's great to see CNN highlgihting her reporting.

Is it safe to say that London is CNN/I's nerve centre just as New York is Domestic's?



This is probably old news but thank Jeff Zucker for the current format of Domestic. He used to head a general entertainment channel and what he has done was to try to make a news channel more like a 'general entertainment' one where one day a personality is up and the next day, he's down.

CNN/I is nowadays the closest one can get to a 'classic' CNN.

CNN International is overall still excellent, except still too many US simulcasts.
Yes they do a lot from London and have great talent there.
I just don't like the oversized lower thirds.
Everything else is great though.

Coverage begins with Richard Quest, Bianca Nobilo, Hala Gorani and Julia Chatterley from 10pm GMT Thursday (11am NZT Friday).
At some point (time not specified) Christiane Amanpour, Isa Soares and Cyril Vanier take over the coverage.

Seems pretty comprehensive.

These are all fantastic presenters and it should be great coverage. Well done CNN. The London team excelling again.

I really can't wait for CNN London to move to a new building and get a better suiting and hopefully bigger studio.

I'd hope they might add some more programming out of London. Ideally they'd replace Early Start with a London based news hour or business news show.
