North American Affilliates/Network Set Design

It'll be pretty much the same set that KCBS in LA, KOVR in Sacramento, and WFOR in Miami got. On TVNT, insiders reported that WBBM's set was built at the same time WGN's set was built, which was in May. It's the same designer, so it was easy for them to build it while they were in town. Insiders also said it was built before there was even a lighting grid installed in that studio.

Looks nice. Similar to other recent CBS O&O sets but by no means a carbon copy.

CITY-TV Breakfast Television Toronto received a new update. They got the new CityNews Flat graphics and entire new space. They have moved upstairs to a new studio and it has a actual newsdesk. Not very "City-esque". But that era is over. The old "environment was on the ground floor so people could look in. Now they have a sweeping view of Yonge Dundas Square. The studio is quite nice.

That's nice - just a shame they've hidden their view with those window stickers.

Anyone notice the advertising in the shot? The cups say "Tim's" as in Tim Hortons.

Yeah that was an odd choice. It follows the graphics package. And the show is on very early so its typically dark outside during the long Canadian winters so that may have been the thinking. But Yonge Dundas Square is a billboard canyon so the diagrid frosted pattern wasnt needed IMO.


The CityNews Room is on the 4th level over the street and you can see the roof terrace where the weather and anchoring position. Its right under the video ribbon that says CityNews OUT OF THE NEWSROOM. So apparently this new BT studio was built in the former Omni broadcast space on the next level below. The old space in the big curved portion on the street level will likely remain the home of the Nationally broadcast CityLine programme.

Here is the entire Citytv Building with the massive billboard and screens and the huge Citytv logo hovering over Yonge Dundas Square. And it features a massive Tim Hortons adverts. For years they've displayed a Breakfast Television is #1 advert.


Cool but still doenst compare with the possibly the most innovative broadcast center anywhere...IMO. Of its time...gone but not forgotten... ChumCity Building. Now the MuchMusic Building and CTV/Bell HQ. The building that perfected the Streetfront Storefront Studioless Broadcast Environment.

WLUC got a major million dollar upgrade. It's not a bad look for market 180 out of 210. They ripped everything down. Got a new studio and control room. The new studio runs on Ross OverDrive and has five PTZ HD cameras through out. I'm not fully confident in the type of PTZ cameras they are but I'm pretty sure they're Panasonic and not Ross PiVot.

I don't know where the picture would be taken. I can only think that 30 Rock would give you that vantage point. But I am guessing that NBC has an exclusive rights to rooftop cameras. I say that because it's one of the few places where you can get a view of the Empire State Building and other major landmarks. I imagine if stations could get a camera there they would.
