What a terrible loss. A sad day for news, Peter Sissons is trying his best not to cry..
R.I.P Carol
Peter handled the story excellently I thought. "The Bluest eyes you'd ever seen" he said, struggling to hold back tears.
Couldn't agree more - he did her proud. Announced the news with such dignity, he was evidently saddened and shocked by the death of his friend and former collegue.
There have been mentions and tributes to other broadcasters that have died, but none have let the veil of detachment slip quite so much as has happened for Carol. I have been very upset by this happening, as I assume before her stroke this couldn't be seen coming.
I'm sure as has been stated, although sounding very upper-class she was very down-to-earth and a good laugh to be with. I always thought she had an understated elegance which for me beats today's favoured dolly-bird style of 'news personality' anyday.
It appeared on the ticker first (as 'BREAKING'), over the top of a report about a set of stamps designed to commemorate modern-day war veterans. AFAIK The first verbal report was at the top of the hour.

It was about 3.17-3.20 ish - after a live report on the rugby from Cardiff.
