My best wishes go to Carol Barnes (ex- ITN and News at Ten), who is seriously ill in hospital after suffering a stroke. I grew up watching Carol presenting a variety of bulletins across ITN's output.

Speedy recovery, Carol.

Unfortunately the Mirror said that she more than likely won't survive. A real shame, she was a decent newsreader, but, dare I say it, of her time.

My thoughts are with her.

Well no news could be either Good or Bad News in my experience.

Though it's likely if anything seriously bad has happened, ITN, the Media and the Viewers would be notified on the day.

News 24 has just announced that Carol Barnes has died. Peter Sissons almost broke down into tears when he announced it. He struggled through the next link but looked like he was about to cry. A very poignant moment.

RIP, Carol.

Extremely sad day for television, and for anyone who watched her, knew her etc...

My sympathies are with her family and friends.

Deeply sad.

RIP Carol.

Very sad. I think everyone would have memories of her presenting the news in the old days. Poor Peter as well.

Very sad to hear this.

A truly fantastic newsreader who brought warmth to news.

RIP Carol.

Here is a great clip of Carol from back in the good old days of ITN.

Totally agree - I remember her in the early 90s especially and, for me, she epitimised ITN during this period. One of the most brilliant newsreaders I think we've ever seen and someone who touched so many people's lives.

Terrible news, and just when she was beginning to get back on track after the death of her daughter.

RIP
