Back to the Football. Things could have been resolved much easier if Number 10 had given 10 more mins notice. The statement was flagged at 9pm. If it was known during Half time in the football, a decision could have been made to switch the second half to BBC TWO at 9pm clearing the BBC ONE service for a Ten News without possible hinderance.

And what would BBC1 have shown at 9pm in that case? "We're moving over to BBC2 to make way for a DIY SOS repeat just in case this match goes to extra time"?

The BBC could have switched the football to BBC2 whose viewership would probably have moved to see the conclusion of the match.

But they couldn't in this instance. At 21:59 BBC 2's programme was still showing its closing credits, over on BBC 1 there was intense activity. As I said previously, there was no opportunity to do a graceful overlap between 1 and 2, and any gap in the football would have been unacceptable.

If the BBC wanted to guarantee last night's News at Ten would start at 22:00:00 then they shouldn't have
scheduled a football match with the potential to go into extra time and penalties to be on BBC 1.

You’ve obviously never watched Wimbledon, where equally unimportant matches have switched channels mid flow.

As long as you start BBC Two before you end BBC One, it can be done very cleanly.

What is odd is that beforehand many here were suggesting what may happen at 10 with moving the football being a credible option, whereas now when it didn’t happen apparently moving the football is a ludicrous idea that shouldn’t be entertained.

I'm seeing this another way. Certain sports, it seems, as far as the BBC are concerned, are sacrosanct and their viewers are incapable of finding "102" on their remote. It's happened with Wimbledon and it's happened here, where BBC complaints repeat a line of "sports get more viewers on BBC1, people expect sports on BBC1" and that, it seems, is the start and end of their logic.

Everything else then has to fit around that. I'm tending towards the football should have been scheduled on BBC2 from the start, to keep BBC1 peak-time free - but I accept that can be argued either way.

Although I personally believe that the news should always be found in the same place and other programming should move around it (onto BBC2 in this case), I'm kind of defeating my own argument by also admitting that it's odd that people can't press one button on the remote to solve the issue (the prog channel "up" button), which will take a fraction of a millisecond.

Yet people like me (here and now) will happily devote 3 minutes to write a post justifying one position or another.......

We're a funny race, us humans. Right?

The BBC can't have it both ways, it can't be the 'go to' channel for events of importance, but expect the news to be an immovable stone in its schedules.

We're really still talking about this non-event?

Yes, the SRO Audience website showed that was their last show of the series. Planned ahead by the production team and Channel 4. That is one show I do not miss each week, and will be watching especially on 29th March.

Are they going to change that if Article 50 ends up getting delayed or cancelled, as is looking increasingly likely?

I am quite sure that should the fat lady sing, plans will be revised.

As it stands:

- May is committed to us leaving the EU at 23:00 UTC on Friday, 29.03.2019.
- No Deal isn't off the table
- Consequently, the Leader of HM's Most Loyal Opposition is refusing to enter into talks.
- Plan B vote next week, so another exciting week for us Pres geeks either way.

Probably not as it’s basically half a coincidence as the series aired roughly the same dates last year.
