Helen Boden and her deputy Steve Mitchell have resigned!!

EDIT: Nick Higham is saying that they have 'stepped aside' not resigned...think they are waiting on the mid morning statement

Fran Unsworth, head of newsgathering and Ceri Thomas, editor of today have been asked to fill the roles. Looks like the start of a process which will see a whole chain of management from the top through to newsnight leave.

It was marked as LIVE, the camera was at one point struggling to focus and you could hear it in the background as McCoy interviewed Higham.

That looked like it was taken from the roof of a building with a very ugly zoom on it. There was no movement and the helicopter wouldn't keep that still.

Mike Smith (the ex BBC Presenter that now runs a aerial filming company), Tweeted earlier today that the Beeb have indeed rented an aircraft at 1500 quid/hr to shoot their own building.

They've lost it big time now, what with standing outside to report on themselves !! Madness all of it !!

No, he tweeted "BBC News now have a live helicopter up at £1500 an hour. Filming the BBC" which was only asserting his assumption that the BBC were using a live helicopter. Just because he knows the price of doing it doesn't mean the BBC are.

If the BBC have put a helicopter up there, where are all the nice live sweeping helicopter shots? All we've had is one really shaky, ugly zoom from a static location.

There is some confusion, the Helicopter shot was used to replace talking heads and was a wide sweep of the new central courtyard then circulating the entire building in a clockwise move. There's an alternate, much shorter, shot being used on the headlines that could be a tall building one, zooming out from the engraved BBC 'blocks' on the new entrance front in the courtyard.

Good start for the new DG, make your own headlines. Rolling Eyes Who's the guy giving him direction, someone clearly tells him to wrap it up.

BBC is really dealing with all of this in a shockingly messy way. Shocked Confused
