He never lasted long. Who could replace him?

I'm a great supporter of the BBC, the current events are bad for the corp but the witchhunt is scary
On a pres front, I have to say it was poorly choreographed so the News Channel had to crash into it a couple of seconds done straight from the closing titles of the network bulletin. Very shoddy.

So the printed press have got their man which inevitably gives them another day of CRISIS AT THE BBC headlines.
I can't help but feel this has got completely out of hand. I think Newsnight's apology on Friday was enough and Mr Entwistle should have gone on TV this morning and simply said that they've apologised and a line has been drawn under it.
A bad day for the BBC, but only because they've bowed to pressure from other sources who have an axe to grind.

Lord Patten refered to it as one of the saddest nights of his public life. What about the night China regained Hong Kong and the night he lost his seat in the 1992 Election?

Cover up, A total cover up and were still no further forward dealing with the REAL issues..............

Well, Entwistle barely having settled in as DG, and now, gone. Regrettable? In that respect, I would say perhaps so; but there has undoubtedly been a lot of pressure of late, so I can very much understand the decision.

Totally, this story will inevitably run for weeks and months to come. My gosh, it will be Christmas before we know it.
I wonder how quickly they'll want to sort out a new DG. Priority no doubt to sort out current issues.

Can't help but think the BBC has itself overblown the most recent Newsnight issue, and I think George Entwistle has, apart from anything, had some rotten luck. I suspect they'll take their time before appointing a new DG - if Tim Davie struggles over the next few weeks, he can only be praised for stepping in under difficult circumstances. The last thing you want is another permanent DG to be seen to have failed if this story takes a while to go away.
