I suspect it's not tenable at all given today's developments. The UK's main PSB channel cannot be without a main evening news bulletin for 2 days during a rapidly evovling national crisis.
Maybe in your opinion, since you seem to the only one who's decreed that the four horsemen of the apocalypse are standing by to ride in if there isn't a "proper" bulletin on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
The issue is important yes, but BBC One is not a rolling news channel, though it likes to play at being one when something major happens or an important enough minister stands in front of a podium. There are other outlets for news, at least four of which are available to everybody on Freeview - this isn't the 1980s...

Just a thought but I do wonder given the rapidly evolving COVID 19 situation how tenable it will be not to have a proper early evening news bulletin on BBC 1 on either Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
