With the series on a break this year, I thought it should come back with a strong new brand and format for its awaited return. I think the logo people associate with the show is iconic, however it does look dated I think, and a flat modern design is the way forward. I think ‘it’s time to face the music’ is something everyone is familiar with and should be the focus of the show - the music from the artists rather than their backstories.

I used a sans serif but quirky font for the text, with the X in a red box to keep the familiar colour still. Here’s a promo slide I designed:

*

With a very similar look and feel, here’s the voting graphics; I wanted to avoid gradients and just keep everything looking fresh and similar.

*

I made a slide for info on the format changes to the show (this is pretty self-explanatory):

*

Finally, I wanted to do something a bit different on The Gallery, and show a few real life uses of the logo rather than just on screen graphics.

So, here’s what the banners at the audition days would look like:

Audition backdrop (room auditions):

Let me know what you think! Smile

Hello, Owen. Nice to see a new mock from you.

Interesting idea for a mock, and nice to see 'real world' examples.

For me, I'm not a massive lover of the typeface you've chosen for the 'FACTOR'; I find the R to be rather ugly. (That could well just be me being a bit of a weirdo, so I wouldn't worry too much about that one.)

However, I'd personally increase the space between the bottom of 'THE' and the top of 'X FACTOR'. Looks a bit off to me at the moment, with the 'X' being further away from the 'FACTOR' than the 'THE' is.

Interesting format points too. You've clearly thought a lot about the logistical challenges COVID-19 brings, (e.g. the changes to the six chair/spot challenge) too, which is a level of detail I feel you should be commended for.

My criticisms are minor. Keep up the good work on this. Nice to see something a bit different in The Gallery.

I definitely agree with this critique. That extra bit of space would really help to round the logo off and get it just right.

Overall I like this mock and I think it's a refreshing idea; pretty bold to drop the signature 'X' logo but I think it works. The signposts and backdrop are great additions. I also like the change to 'Improv week' as Bootcamp has always been a very vague concept (it practically changes like the weather).

So it's a yes from me. Pun intended.

Adding to what David has said, I would look at the spacing in all of the elements of the logo - especially the kerning. The space either side of the H in "THE" looks unbalanced along with the A in "FACTOR".

Similarly, the "THE" is closer to the red box than "FACTOR" is, all very minor points but ones which would show attention to detail had been given if they were tweaked. You might also want to consider different versions of the lockup to suit different media.

Overall though I quite like it, a bold decision as has been said, which I think the show would benefit from.

It's OK, I just feel that the whole point of 'The X Factor' is the 'X' factor, to me the X should stand out more.

But on the current logo, the lockup needs work especially around the alignment of 'THE' which sits too close to the rest and should not extend further than the 'F'.

Thanks for all the feedback, I'll make a few changes to the alignment of things and now as I look at the 'THE' more and more it annoys me too Smile

I like where you are going with this, I feel its time for them to drop the X logo and try something like this. The entire format and branding needs a good kick up the backside in order to keep the show relevant espically nowadays. This is a step in that direction.

Keep up the good work, would like to see more of this!
