It's time to try again - although I am better this time
This is a mock of NBC today. It is based around the 'Today at 65' logo, and has a more square theme.
I hope you like it

Too many gradients, especially when most US TV now is moving onto flat graphics.
I also find the ticker space too small between the clock and 'ticker heading', something that moving the graphics away from the 4:3 safe zone would fix.

It's not bad. It's not great.

The layout is pretty similar to currently apart from the ticker which becomes very small due to the way the words "international headlines" are laid over the top at the left making it hard to read the ticker text.

The straps are nice enough and I do like the square around the logo and the stripes to the right of it (I assume they animate like the current straps) although the vertical positioning of the text seems a bit off and you could possibly do with something being weighted differently.

Overall it's a nice consistent design however it could probably be evolved more from the actual broadcast graphics and it would be good to see more of it.

EDIT - I just read my post back and realised I didn't mention the graidents. Too many of them - get rid.

Next update - 16:9 safe only and no gradients

With the ticker, the thing is is that the Today show does not control it. It is there for the affiliates to put in their local news headlines and weather.
I also reckon you play around with more flat designs and see how they look.

I think they should be more like subtle gradients
