PATV's Miscellaneous Projects

Hi everyone!

Over the past few year or so I've started a few different projects that I haven't finished before moving onto something else, so I thought as a present to you all, I'd post those unfinished projects. (Of course, the vast majority of these are recreations)

This posts includes some Discovery stuff, Channel 4, E4 and Box Plus stuff, some updates to my Good Morning Britain project, some BBC stuff and some Sony bits.




Around September 2018, I started doing some stuff recreating Quest and Quest Red. The main part that I've added is an inverted colour scheme for Quest Red to match the main channel. I also kept the map pin as I feel its a lot better with it than now when it was removed.











In terms of animations, I didn't really get that far, apart from beginning the menu, which is only the map pin and the side shadow...


On the other end of Discovery, I also started Eurosport, however, I don't have any of the original files at the moment, but at the time I was looking at how for Eurosport's coverage of the Winter Olympics, in Germany they utilised TLC for coverage and applied the TLC logo to the Eurosport branding, this got to me thinking about doing the same thing for when Quest shows sport coverage (especially as Eurosport overspill)

So I took the animation of the TLC logo and for the bug, added the Eurosport 'LIVE' tag



While collecting the photos and videos to put in this post, I'm thinking of returning to this, especially as I've been looking at the channels recently and dplay.




Once again, these were a few little bits from a bigger planned project, which I started around this time last year.

The beginning part was altering the programme endboard to fit with Box Plus programmes...

Then further on, I decided to have a go at recreating the Channel 4 ECP. I have included Vice as I had the idea of seeing what it would be like if Channel 4 went into partnership with them as they do elsewhere in the world (especially with the All 4 partnership)


I did the same with E4 (altering it so it fitted in with the right half rather than the bottom half), as well as one animation from the video I was planning.



Next was All 4, the animation below, is the third attempt (I think) at doing it, the first two were alright, but were quite jumpy, one of the reasons this one doesn't have the other parts of the 4...


This developed into me trying to expand the All 4 branding towards The Box Plus App, for it I replaced the colours with the BX+ pink and the former BeBox blue. The idea was to also create a package from it, taking inspiration from All 4, this video (which is mostly about the picture animation) would be the titles/break bumpers to playlists uploaded to the app...


I then created the initial layout of the graphics package, this eventually changed, but this video also contains an animation for the BX+ at the end of the bumper (I went through a few different animation such as the logo pulsing on from the plus, and different wipes, etc.)



To tie it in further with All 4, I changed the song title graphic to a version inspired by the central graphic used in the trailers. The show title also has a more subtle entry/exit animation, and adopt the progress bar... as a progress bar for the full show (in a identical way to 4Music currently)...



Also, for the app, I mocked up examples of the app icon, and how they look within the Apple TV app...









Not really much to add to this... all I've done since the last posts in my GMB thread are a few testers of the (then) new TOTH animations...







Not particularly much here, I just experimented with a few textured logos for BBC Radio...


As well as a design for a new style ECP, taking inspiration from this episode of Only Connect (from 28:28 in)







The last thing I have to show are a few bits from recreating the Sony Channel and Sony Movies logos, and them adapting them to Sony Crime, and a hypothetical situation where Sony still had the music channels...

The Quest stuff (as someone who worked with those graphics daily) you're super close/on par with the recreations.

Great designs, and I’m loving your song choices as well!

The E4 ECP re-design looks great! You should probably try ECPs for More4, Film4 (Film4'S ECPs are like E4's current ones) and even 4 Music!

The BBC ECPs are great, just that green is too bright for CBBC. Try purple?

Thanks, I think I can remember that you used to work for Quest, so that's very nice to hear!


I didn't explain that the BBC ECPs would have video backgrounds, so currently CBBC uses its ident, the green is just the first frame (but even then the ident is quick and distracting, so it's not ideal at the moment)

A seamless recreation of Sony Pictures TV channel logos you have there.

Sony Pictures Networks India's entertainment TV channels are still stuck with the classic 'capital S' icon. I think you can try give them an adaptation of new international style of logos from Sony Pictures Television.

Or, could you give some tips so I can recreate them myself?

* You can exclude Sony Pictures Networks Productions (their film studios in India) from your task.
* For Sony Max and Sony Max 2, let's wait until Sony Max Hungary adopts the new logo.
* For AXN, you can simply take Sony AXN Germany's new logo.
* For Sony BBC Earth, you may set the "EARTH" wordmark in BBC Reith Sans.
* You may have to give Sony ESPN a new name. Sony currently uses the ESPN brand under the license, but Disney's takeover of 21st Century Fox may have made the situation a bit complicated. Disney is one of two parent companies of ESPN, while Fox owned Star India (one of Sony's major rivals in Indian broadcasting industry) which runs Star Sports.

Yeah, I can see Sony ESPN reverting back to it's original name, Sony Kix. I can also see their Indian kids channel Sony Yay and Sony's UK kids Pop channels being harmonised.

Brilliant, the only thing i would say is the text on 5live and 5live sports extra looks odd.

I planned that after I released the first part of my Sky thread, I would let it breathe for a few days, and while I work on the next bit for that, I would update this thread with some more pieces of unreleased stuff, some which I'm taking a break from, others which were just small parts of bigger projects which I don't plan to finish at the moment, I hope you enjoy!




Some more stuff based on the Discovery channels, these expand on what I posted before and are new recreations from scratch. Again, not really much as I didn't focus on this for that long, but some more trailer end boards, ECPs and a Quest Red animation (of course, these are based on the looks before the recent rebrand)...







This is what I spent the most time on since the last post, once again recreating from scratch most stuff due to me switching laptops, and not yet being able to access my old hard drive. I also created a mock-up of the studio, which is 90% finished, the images are in progression order. Also included is the redone TOTH animation...



















This was something I forgot to put up last time, it was an idea for a TV app for BBC Sounds, which is now something that exists...







Not so much a full blown recreation, but I thought I'd include this, some graphics I made for The Circle as I was one of those who tweeted along with the show, and wanted slides to match...







One that I was working on at the time of my first post, but did expand on. This was my take on the Boxmas brand that replaced Box Upfront, so rather than what they had, adapting the main Box branding.

I'll put this one fully in the spoiler, as it may be a bit weird seeing Christmas in May...
