Love all of the new additions, apart from the end of the countdown. I'm just not sure about the 'BBC World News' being slapped on top in the centre. Perhaps the form-up should be more like the titles, with the logo sticking to the bottom corner.

You might be right, I'll try something else.

Thought about what you said Chris, and yes it does look a bit of a mess just plopped in the middle so i've come up with a better way to end the countdown without it being identical to the titles. (I am absolutely determined that the idents/countdown be different from the bulletin titles, both in their form up and in their composition. Hence why the white continents are hardly noticable in the countdown.)

Okay, so here we go...

Up to this point it would be the same.
*

Then the globe would proceed to sweep across the screen eradicating the original "BBC World News" logo in bottom left. The clock would simply fade out.
*
As the globe passes, a new larger logo is formed from within the globe, and is left in the middle of the screen as the globe exits stage left...
*

*

This final endboard would probably not stay on screen more than a second before the headlines/titles of whatever news programme.

I really like that end-frames solution, yeah.

Countdown music sounds like it could be shaping up very nicely. The only thing I would say is the 'pips' are too far out front in the mix (especially the pitch change toward the end, where it gains even more prominence) and should be dipped down a bit so that it doesn't overpower the rest of the score.

Great use of the claps though, and the stereo width and tone of the mix sounds pretty much spot-on, not always an easy feat.

Very good quality mocks and could really see these working on screen - but would so like the BBC to move away from the current look completely rather than keep evolving it.

The Countdown is still quite a way off, but here is another short snippet of music... another sting... to whet your appetite.

That low-mid synth texture works well through it, I think it's a good decision to keep it quite calm overall, great work.

I'm not sure what it's called (could it be the 'beacon' sound?) but what are you using to approximate it at the moment? Sounds faintly guitar-y to me. Maybe if it was more like the original, or had a similar strong attack and bright synthetic sound, that could be worth a try.

But I guess that's if you're a perfectionist; these are very minute details to pick over, nothing really wrong with this per se Smile

If I'm understanding you correctly, the 'beacon' is the high pitched random beeping (not the boops) that fades in after the first thunderclap... it's a Digital Stepper synth. It actually sounds pretty crap on its own but works quite nicely here.

Its still a major WIP, there are lots of bits that need tweaking. I'm trying to keep it as clean as possible by keeping any little synth flourishes to a bare minimum.

I might find a way to replicate some of the bits i'm struggling with as i go.

The absolute worst thing, which i left out because i'm absolutely miles off; The four note World Motif. I know its cheating but if i was able to get a clean version... but alas. I still feel its cheating using the thunderclaps, but i cant find any decent shareware Orchestral Drum Kits.

If money were no object I would get all the Jam Packs or maybe even upgrade to Logic.

Have you listened to the BBC world music cd? There's a track there which uses the world audio logo to good effect, Nation to Nation which is worth a listen.
