I've always liked the music to the 2002 countdown, and noticed that there is not a FULL countdown down. Only 58 seconds, and the video quality is poor. I thought about making one, and putting it in widescreen, but I've hit a snag with the number grid, and the revolving text

What needs to be fixed?
I've fixed the blurriness by lowering the lens blur (after rendering)

Well you can try one of the expressions, that might help for the text.

Cant wait to see what it looks like when the numbers and text go in... also, werent the large numbers more orange in the World version of the countdown.

The oscillating text is a real pain as I really don't know of any expressions for it. I have tried it manually but that takes forever!!

By the way, my reference vid's are:

Work on some of the background colour and position changes and get those right, then look at the "WORLD" texts, hand animate a "WORLD, OLRDW, LRDWO, RDWOR" etc and make that a separate precomp that you can loop and resize and fade in/out as needed.

Do the same for the seconds (google after effects countdown script) and there are some nifty ones that will do the timer for you, make a large aray of them white on black and render that out seperatly then use it as a luma matt layer for the "swooshy" numbers.

There's a preset called dictionary, or something similar. I don't really know much about AE's expressions, but maybe you could work something out using that. Also, I dunno if it's the reference being over-saturated, but the globe needs some more transparency.

.

You can also use echo* and transform to make these appear on a grid then mask off parts you want, loop them and this will work using the above method!

*you can also use echo on the countdown numbers to offset them by a fraction of a second!

Hello! I'm new in TV Forum.

I remember seeing a video at the end of the countdown the numbers disappear. Take a look at 4:17.

After seeing yours and remembering how much I liked that countdown I thought I'd have a go. Annoyingly I didn't have any reference material (apart from a still) so I still need to work on some of the animation a little but I'm happy with it Smile

Is it me or am I the only one who in seeing these, is getting a bit nostalgic for the original BBC News 24 90 second countdown?

Wow! Adding "The World Today" theme at the end made a great sequal to the countdown too.

I must admit that getting the colour right is always an issue for me when it comes to the recreation.
