Thanks to the Metropol Upload Service, and Ashley B for the television capture

Now I wouldn't exactly call this a mock, seeing as I'm not really creating anything new, but I think the addition of gradients to the aston really freshens the look. The current look looks quite dull and weary, and this livens it up a bit, similar to the 2007 look. Before I continue, I just want to get some feedback on this.

As far as I can see, you've taken some of the most basic and uncomplicated graphics used on TV, and made every single aspect of them look crap.

From the vertical alignment of the text in the main super, to the non-bold weight of the ticker, and the poor positioning of the logo, every detail has been made slightly worse compared with the graphics actually used on screen.

The fact that you've added some mild gradients is of virtually no consequence, as the terrible attention to all the other details sucks all the attention away from any possible aesthetic 'improvement' offered by the gradients themselves.

Not really worth pursuing.

Thank You for your input. In Photoshop, it wasn't possible to get the proper font in the ticker...the bold version of Gill Sans MT was too bold, and the faux bold version of the standard font looked a bit closer. I don't understand what you mean about the text alignment and logo placement, they're essentially exactly the same as on the original image:

Regardless, here is a modification, based on the suggestions above:

I'm sure it was possible, you just don't know how.

I got it a bit closer, on the second try.

Still poorly aligned though. 'David Cameron' and his title is too far up and to the right.

However, I see little point in this mock in the first place.

And the 'L' in Leader no longer aligns with the 'E' in Cameron.

I think the gradients are a bit distracting.

Thanks for your input. I do have one question however, regarding the text alignments. How exactly are they wrong, I had the "C" of Conservative lined up right with the "D" of David...isn't that where text alignment is supposed to start?

The whole point of text alignment is that the text lines up with the rest of the graphics.
In your case your aston text doesn't line up with anything else, not even the news logo vertically. Little things and attention to detail goes a long way than worrying what the C and the D are doing.
