So I'm thinking of doing a mock-along Friday evening with some of it, you guys interested?

YES PLEASE!!!

I was doing something similar years ago, but kept on picking it up, and dropping it.
I am interested in seeing how you have attempted these animations.

If you could somehow record it that would help a lot.

I think you should make the placenames a little bit smaller and transparent (just a tiny bit!)
Other than that, it's beyond gorgeous.
EDIT: right here

EDIT 2: oh my goodness it's perfect for a wallpaper!
See the spoiler for a screenshot

This is actually a valid point, I'm sure that the original the 'transmission rings' used to show as cream on the red parts and red on the cream parts, like an exclusion or difference matte or at least partly

I've updated the first post with renders from another shot I've finished, and a bit of the animation too. I'm thinking I'll jump on twitch tomrrow around 7PM UK time for those that want to follow along, ask questions etc.

If you have any questions about after effects of graphic design or a bit of TVF general chit chat. You can jump into the stream to view, but you'll need an account to enter the chat.

I look forward to seeing some of you there again.

Bail, I'm thankful you recorded it!

I have emailed Martin Lambie-Nairn to see if he knows if those maps and globes were filmed or not, and sent him a link to your video so hopefully we get a definite answer!

Sorry I missed it may I ask how powerful your machine is because you have many tabs on google chrome and after effects my laptop just dies after a couple of minutes Sad

So apparently the maps and globes were all digital... I always thought they were models.

I tried to achieve the 'filmic' look of the originals (particularly N24) on an abandoned mock from last year:
