It's eighteen(!) years now since Andrea Catherwood made the move from ITV News to 5 News, taking the place of Kirsty Young who went in the opposite direction. (Of course, just two years later, Andrea was back at ITV and Kirsty was back at Channel 5 - but that's another story.)
At the time, C5 were using their first set of celebrity idents, without the celebs speaking. Quite naturally, Andrea's arrival meant that they had to make a few special idents, which aired during the run-up to her first bulletin on 24 January 2000. Each one featured her sitting in or perching on a chair of some sort, accompanied by the text "Andrea Coming Soon" and a rather funky rendition of the five-note motif that accompanied the regular idents.
In fact, so big a deal did C5 make of their new signing that they played these idents into almost *every* programme - news, films, documentaries, 100%, etc. (Or at least, that's how I remember it - the then eleven-year-old me did watch C5 rather a lot.) This was understandable, though - Andrea *was* taking over as the channel's lead news presenter, and 5 News was getting a new look on the same day too.
So it's slightly surprising that, eighteen years on, there doesn't appear to be much evidence of these idents on the Net. One of them is on YouTube, leading into a news update (with the old look); another was on TV Ark before that site went down, leading into the News at Noon on 24 January ("Six hours to go before Andrea Catherwood takes her place on 5 News..."); and The TV Room has screenshots from three of them - but that seems to be it.
But of all of C5's celeb idents - including the later set with the celebs actually speaking - these are the ones I remember the most, mainly because of how often they were played in a relatively short period of time.
So does anyone here have any clean copies of these idents?
