I don't know how it works, but Part 2 of EastEnders was up on iPlayer for the Shield minutes after it finished, unless they use the live rewind feature?

Has parliament itself not been upgraded to HD yet? It's defo had the cameras replaced at least once since the move to widescreen.

They introduced new low-level cameras a few years ago which look HD downscaled to me, but even during Daily Politics (on BBC Two HD) it's all SD.

www.bbc.co.uk/radio has moved over from the beta site. Not sure I like it, looks incomplete...

For the State Opening of Parliament, the extra cameras in the Lords and lobbies are all HD (which with all the gold and what not looks great), but I'd guess that the kit somewhere isn't life expired, so I think we won't see HD for a good while yet, possibly not until they move out of the Palace.

I think they're all due to move out in 2025 so I would have thought that it's unlikely that they'll spend money on upgrading the infrastructure before then. Especially as other infrastructure is on its last legs. Then again, Parliament does work in mysterious ways so you never know! They'll probably have HD cameras whilst in the interim building, I would assume. By the time they move back, which is estimated to be at least 2031, other broadcasting standards beyond HD (e.g. UHD) might be employed by then.

One consideration is that as cameras get better at picking up detail, would that be an issue the confidentiality for notes and papers that the MPs hold? MPs walking into Downing Street have already been told to be more careful and to cover up their papers as camera lenses have become better at zooming in and catching MPs out. It would be impossible to constantly hide them from cameras within Parliament meetings.

However, we should probably get back on topic...

Looks like the BBC Weather website has had an update to include the forecast for your local area (or presumably London if not logged in) to the right of the UK map on the homepage of the site. Previously there was a LOT of wasted space on that page so nice to see them doing something with it!

Yes, this seemed to appear towards the end of last week. Not sure why it's taken them so long to get round to it though. I'm still not sure why the map of the UK needs to be so big either as it means a lot of unnecessary scrolling to reach the video forecast. Surely the video and a summary of local weather are what most people want when they go on there, rather than a whole UK summary.

Seems bbc.co.uk is offline with an internal service error.

Must have been the heat, needed a lie down.

Just about back right now, some pages very slow to load or not loading at all.
