Disney+ UK Launch Date Confirmed

Apologies if this has been covered already. The BBC have announced the official launch date of Disney+ in the UK and other European nations:

There's an interesting part where knowledge of future Marvel Films will rely on knowledge of the shows:

Because things that we're told will happen on the 31st March always do without fail.

Isn't this sort of thing worthy of discussion in the main forum now - just as significant to TV if not more so, than Chart Show TV being bought out by Trace for example.

31st March is also the launch date of Disney+ in Ireland.

It is being discussed - in a thread speculating about Disney closing down some of their linear channels.

The real ‘threat’ I see is to other multi source streaming services. Already Disney are restricting access to current content that this service will offer to basic HD only. No whistles and flutes. No UHD versions of movies are offered on iTunes as an example.

Uh-oh. I just heard that Disney+ is having "technical errors" or service outages from some parts of the U.S on it's launch day.



7,300 outages were reported for Disney+ this morning on downdetector.com.

Some subscribers in Puerto Rico, Canada & the U.S. were getting messages to say that the service was not available in their region.

Also people in Puerto Rico are to have the launch of Disney+ delayed by a week until next Tuesday the 19th of November.

That's a pretty bad start for Disney today. I have to wonder though. Will it get better for these new subscribers in future?

There was always going to be teething issues but clearly Disney was caught out.

I do understand that. Disney should have had a detailed preparation plan in place before the service had launched to not allow them have any failures before having their rollout in the U.S. market. They put all of their eggs into one basket & didn't expect that the uptake in subscribers would have overwhelmed their expectations to make their servers fail in the process.

Just on the content side from Disney+ about The Simpsons. There was a post from here a while back that episodes were not showing in the correct aspect ratio on Sky One or Channel 4. Disney are having complaints from subscribers in the U.S. that it's first two seasons on the service there are having the exact same problems with their AR & apparently they are having the issue rectified as we speak.

A good example of how widescreen cropping ruins jokes.
