Beeb

I don't get such an issue when asking for 5 Live - but I do get strange inconsistency in how it pronounces the "live" part of the name - ie the difference between "to live a life" and "live from Salford".

At the moment, I can't see anything Beeb is offering above and beyond what the current ecosystems can do, but I can only assume the plan is to start with small, easily achievable tasks and expand capabilities/complexity over time.

Yeah, so clearly this release is very limited, but there is ambition around offering bespoke editorial experiences that can be difficult to shoehorn onto other Voice platforms (as has been mentioned previously, the "double wake word" is not a great experience).

Then there's also the imagined future where Beeb is integrated deeply into products like iPlayer and Sounds, so you can have journeys like listening to Radio 1, asking for a mix based on the current song which would expose deep cuts, Live Lounge segments etc. Various ways of pulling together relevant "best of the BBC" content that is harder to do through third party channels...

I can imagine a glitch happening where you have Cbeebies on the TV. The channel name is mentioned in an ident, trailer, or in-vision continuity, and the assistant takes whatever follows that as an instruction because Cbeebies includes the word Beeb in it's name.

That's something that happens with Alexa, but it's largely solved. I'm not sure if they still do it, but they used to muffle the name in its own ads so it wouldn't trigger devices. I believe the servers will also ignore an activation word if an identical audio fingerprint is reported by multiple devices - sometimes you'll see the ring light up and then go off when (presumably) the server tells the device it's a false positive. They probably also store a fingerprint to avoid an activation while someone's watching the same thing on catch-up later.

It's 'OK Beeb' rather than just 'Beeb'.

beeb.com was originally a shopping website, or at least a forerunner of google shopping that curated other shops. I believe the jingle went "at beeb dot com, it's plain to see, it's internet shopping from the B-B-C"

Isn't part of the thing with beeb also to make it more responsive to the multitude of British accents. I find I have to put on my phone voice with Alexa and Siri. Although there is that Irish guy who's trained "alleppa" to understand nonsense its not as if she can easily code switch between the huge number of different accents and dialects that exist within English, often overlapping (In real life, I still have a geordie accent, but tend to say more Scottish dialect words than NE England).

I also think it tries to recognise individual words, so it would understand that CBeebies is a complete word, not simply hear a sound matching 'Beeb' and be triggered. Otherwise you'd have the same problem whenever 'BBC' was said, or any phrase containing a 'beeb' sound.
