Yeah, basically I’m trying to say they’re showing it at half the frame rate so it looks like it has a film look.

Thanks.

Sessioning Corrie at the moment on it and I’m getting used to the ‘film’ look. It’s good to see the picture quality is high.

Don't think ITV Hub or All4 are 50Hz on any streaming platform. I think iPlayer is the exception with their 720p50 outlets (and soon 2160p25 Blue Planet II stuff - that also included mention of 1080p50 and 2160p50 profiles in the future)

This means that ITV 50Hz native shows - like Corrie, Emmerdale, X factor, sport etc. will all be 25p and display at half the temporal resolution of their original broadcast, unlike iPlayer.

Too bad it looks and functions nothing like a normal Apple TV app. And it’s only stereo which is no better than AirPlaying the iOS app.

Does it not do 2160p and HDR - or are both of those available via Airplay?

I only have a standard HD TV and the previous standard HD only 4th gen Apple TV, so can't comment on UHD or HDR features I'm afraid.

Ah - the ATV4 doesn't include the new 'auto frame rate' option either does it? Think that is limited to the 4K (it comes along with the SDR/HDR switching option - as pre-tvOS 11.2 the 4K model was permanently HDR on HDR TVs, with non-ideal SDR->HDR conversion of SDR content)?

Which presumably means 23.976p stuff on Netflix/Amazon is also output at 59.94 with 3:2 judder on the ATV 4? ISTR that the ATV4 didn't offer 23.976p output as a manual choice for frame rate, so you couldn't force it either?

The fabled AppleTV wrapper app has appeared today. Not sure it adds much to the experienced user, the new one maybe. Useful to be able to launch different content from the same 'port' though.

Does make the Apple TV feel more like a "TV" platform though...

It doesn't seem to work with Netflix......

The more you watch via the TV app, the better it is. It’s formed a queue of the next episodes of all the things I’m watching.

Also, not sure if my eyes are just used to it now but the ITV playback picture seems to be HD and not jerky anymore.

I’m enjoying the experience of using this, especially the Up Next queue system part. Future updates should hopefully make it even more powerful - maybe there will be queue management features or playback without jumping to the provider app. When Channel 4 eventually gets on board it’ll be a compelling alternative to other platforms for people who mostly watch the main networks.

Netflix support would be the icing on the cake.
