Rageh Omar doing the News at Ten at 10.30 tonight. I thought I misheard him a couple of times but a check on +1 proves I didn't. First he thinks the Tunisia attacks were in January, when it was actually late June. Nearly six months out. Then to top it off the spending review is now on Monday. Could have sworn it was Wednesday.
A bit p*ss poor

What is happening to Rageh?! For Pete's sake, he's a renowned veteran professional journalist. How the hell is he making so many mistakes, e.g. "Pan Am Flight 207" in a report on the Lockerbie case?
I remember Rageh having a brief spell presenting BBC News bulletins overnight on BBC News 24 and BBC World in 2000/2001. He used to alternate with Clarence Mitchell. Both were quite wooden back then - and I don't remember either of them presenting much outside of the graveyard shift. Eventually in 2001, Rageh stopped presenting and went back to reporting before making a name for himself during the Iraq War in 2003.

Alas some people are awful at reading the news, but can good at reporting or even presenting a tv show.

Do you mean "awful" as in getting details wrong - as in the mistakes that Rageh made while presenting News at Ten last night? By the way, his mistakes are not confined to newsreading, e.g. "Pan Am Flight 207".
Whilst we can't solely blame Rageh for this error, he would edit his own scripts which I'm sure would be proof read by the Editor so it really could be anyone at fault here.
ITV have a habit of trying to force their reporters to have a crack at the presenting gig but it really is a complete different skill set. You're either cut out for it or not. I remember the hoohah on here when they tried to get Geraint in the presenters chair, which I think ITV learnt wasn't a good idea as he hasn't been seen since at least 2012 (though I didn't think he was too bad if I'm honest).
Rageh and Tom aren't natural broadcasters but are good reporters, it's a shame ITV won't see this. BBC generally don't get their reporters presenting, but they usually tend to get it right when they do. Jon Kay on Breakfast is a good example.
And I would be nitpicking if I said this didn't warrant it's own thread, but seeing the state the 'Bradby on Ten' thread had gotten into recently, I don't blame you.

Even if someone else made a mistake with the script, Rageh still ought to have known at the top of his head the month in which the Sousse massacre took place and the day next week on which the Chancellor's spending review is taking place. Furthermore, the script issue doesn't explain his "Pan Am Flight 207" error, because that happened in one of his reports.
Nothing wrong with getting experienced reporters, especially editors, to read the news. Tim Ewart was a newsreader at times during the early 1990s and Penny Marshall, who happens to be his wife, was a business presenter on the ITN Super Channel News. Why haven't they been asked to read the news now and then?
