That chopper promo KNOWS it's taking the piss out of itself, right?

I do hope so...

Here is a mid-1990s promo for an Arizona station's news chopper and its pilot:

And here is this pilot in action for the morning news:

He's not the pilot (I hope !) there's no way he could do pieces to camera, and be in control of the aircraft.
Very carefully edited, but there's is a pilot present in there too,

Anyway, whatever, what a hideous promo !

There are instances of chopper pilots providing live audio commentary while flying, with a cameraman in the back doing the shots. Here's my favourite example of that:

(also a great car chase with an epicly fast car)

No, he was actually the pilot (as was his successor). He both flew the chopper and reported on-air. Sometimes, he would even have to interrupt his reporting for a second or two to communicate with air-traffic control. It was a two-man crew: a pilot-reporter and a photographer.

But, yes, in other American cities, the reporter and the pilot tend to be two different people.

Anyway, whatever, what a hideous promo !

To be fair though, the promo was a tongue-in-cheek parody of intro sequences to old TV Westerns. (This is Arizona, after all.)

I expect if Interceptor had continued beyond 1989 it would have evolved in to something like this. A missed opportunity.

That Toronto shot is lovely. Looks like it was taken from the North of the city.

If you ever get the chance to visit Toronto, do so at once. It's beautiful.

Talking of promos, this was one of my faves in terms of OTT indulgence from back in the day:

"Complete with *two* on board computers".
Also wonder if the V/O was paid more for each mention of the name 'Chopper4'.
Mouseboy33 and WW Update gave kudos
