Liz Wickham has said goodbye to ITV London, an extremely competent journalist who has been on our screens for long as I remember. Although I wonder if she was pushed or left at her own accord?

Ronke Phillips meanwhile promoted to senior correspondent yesterday evening.

The New York camera is quite high up the building, isn't it?

Yes - it's on the roof of the building the BBC bureau is in.
Quote:

The ITV camera is on top of TLS 7 which is on the 3rd or 4th floor I think which would mean it may be easier to vandalise/damage.

Not sure of your point. The camera has been in use, in SD, for years (since ITN took over London Tonight from LNN?) without any major issues AFAIK, so the positioning is probably fine.

Which led to other problems with the original Thames view camera. The user options and menus were only available on the PAL feed out of the camera which wasn't available to ITN - they only got the SD feed. Sometimes they'd be remotely pressing this, that and the other without being able to 'predict' what they were doing. Sadly the results were sometimes all to obvious on the camera's actual SD output and difficult to rectify without involving the TLS staff - who of course obliged.

I think they could also get bars up on the SD output but the PAL output (monitored at TLS) could still be the camera's normal output. Confusing to say the least when it wasn't terribly well documented.

I heard from a friend (If we had ITN Cameraman to confirm) that the construction of the set, the screen, chairs, desk etc have been purchased or donated to a local college near GIR

I recall they did just that in the Channel Islands, so it's not impossible for London either.

First time I've noticed credits being used at the end of the London bulletin.

That's the first time I've looked at London News properly with a daytime backdrop and it doesn't look half as good as the nightime variant - the realism you see in the nightime version is gone - no light comes in from outside and it makes it look fake and a fair bit worse than usual.

I've always thought that feed from across the Thames looks great scaled up as the studio backdrop, but I see what you mean about the lighting.

It still beats BBC London's studio set hands down though (IMO).
