Lorraine returns with John Stapleton tomorrow. She has said on Twitter that Aled is still getting over a bad chest infection and will be back soon.
Strange that Matt Barbet has been restricted to the Newshour recently, after covering the main show in the past, it would have been interesting to see how Matt and Lorraine worked together. Nonetheless, John is a legend!

Agreed! I don't think he had a great parnership with Kate, which might be why they think "Best keep him off the main show then!". I think Matt deserves another go, I could see Aled leaving Daybreak in a few years and Matt replacing him. I also think Lorraine will leave and just go back to Lorraine. Also there is reports that Matt is a very quiet character and not easy to get along with, but there are lots of rumours about him, so who knows!

Matt and Ranvir seem to have struck up a good working relationship.

Yes, I have just heard he is quite quiet and hard to get along with, should I say he is not very talkative. And I am sure when he presented Daybreak in October last year, he got critised on Twitter for damning JLS.

Couldn't agree more with what had been said, with regards to lorraine going back to just Lorraine. I see this occurring next autumn when the franchise comes up for renewal. I thought Matt was quite good when presenting the main show before, however with John back is very reminiscent of the GMTV days.

Agree. I think they are scrapping the breakfast franchise though, would many people want it nowadays? Especially when with the same budget you could set up a digital channel..

If you are referrring to my previous post, about the franchise. If it is scrapped it doesn't mean that Daybreak will end it will just mean only ITV can own it.. And they will have to provide news anyodds, so I don't think they will be saying to farewell to Daybreak, especially when they have just relaunched it.. And I am sure they will all find jobs somewhere, maybe not Kate Garraway being honest but Aled, Matt and Ranvir would. I could see Matt going back to 5 News... Maybe one day he will make it too ITV News.
I do hope they don't leave the Morning tv market. That would only leave 2 shows . And also correct me if I'm wrong but job losses for the people behind the scenes , and presenters too if they did decide to axe it. Daybreak should be renamed the career breaker.

If the Breakfast franchise was scrapped, would that mean that STV and UTV would now own the airtime between 6:00 and 9:25 within their respective countries? Anyone know? Otherwise surely it's still the Breakfast franchise in everything but name...
Thanks peeps.

I agree I think Matt does deserve another chance at presenting the main show. I thought he did quite well presenting in October and the beginning of the year with Kate. But, I think he finds it difficult to be less serious when presenting and somewhat quieter compared to other presenters.
But as Jamesrl, says he has a great partnership with both Ranvir and Helen. I think if he got more experience presenting the main show I think he would definitely improve. When I was watching the newshour last week I kept thinking that Matt and Helen could be the future main presenters of Daybreak. Even though others might disagree I also sense the feeling that Lorraine and Aled will move on in a couple of years. However, I strongly doubt there will be any big changes in format, set or presenting team until 2014 franchise renewal.
In terms of the breakfast renewal there are two key reasons why ITV could potentially scrap the breakfast franchise. The first reason if Ofcom withdraw the franchise from ITV awarding it to another broadcaster who could offer a better alternative. In contrast, if ITV decided to withdraw from the bidding process they would do so on the grounds that ITV Breakfast including Daybreak and Lorraine were no longer commercially viable. It is important to note since Daybreak's launch advertising revenues have fallen by 30%.
In the ratings front, Daybreak only managed to average between 530,000 - 560,000 viewers this past week down from the 600,000 average last year during the Easter holidays with audience share down year-on-year. But, I think for ITV there is a lot of pressure to keep the franchise as it does start the ITV day with around average of over 1 million viewers by 9.25am. Without the franchise, it could affect the ratings for the rest of the day.
