I see some realistic reflection to be fair, in the desk
I'd say its a wideshot overlay, as it is an easy shot to add things on

Huw also did another behind the scenes a few years later (c. 2005) that shows meetings, the editing of footage, the gallery as the programme is broadcast etc. I think it came under the title of 'day in the life of 10 o'clock news' or similar. Can anyone remember seeing it? I can't find it online anywhere.
Interesting video on YouTube featuring Huw Edwards and the BBC News at Six o'clock back in 2000: Interesting to see N6 in a different light and to see how much as changed in 13 years.

How does Studio B compare in overall size to TC7?
Roughly the same although it lacks useful things like a gantry....and its gallery is too far away from the studio which is a major design flaw.
C
Interesting, on the Goodbye TV Centre show David Attenborough was talking about how he was involved in the planning of TV Centre and how the programme makers lobbied to have the galleries overlooking the studios instead of half-way across the building.

I think that's the one that's on the 50 Years of BBC Television News DVD that was released in the summer of 2004.

I think its real too because I see a bit of a reflection on the desk.
Cheers Jamesypoo.
I think it's real as you can see the spotlights shining on it. But I'm happy to be corrected by someone in the know.
I wonder if that rectangular image of WTC and US flag was really pasted in the studio, or just shown on screen?

They had a Friday sports presenter too - Hazel Irvine usually IIRC. Personally I thought the desk made more sense for single headed presentation than the replacement oval desk with the presenter then sat to one side of it.
It's amazing how small that set looks considering it seemed huge on screen. The other strange thing about that set was its huge figure of 8 desk, the right half of which was hardly ever used. There was no dual presentation in those days, save for the sport presenter during the Saturday late bulletin. I think the odd studio guest used to sit there from time to time, though.

Ah yes, of course! How could I forget the sports presenter on the Friday Six? There's an example of it - including Hazel Irvine - on my YouTube channel:

I was in central London today and had a wander up Regent Street to BH. I hadn't realised that the revolving front doors (under the glass panels with the big BBC letters outside) are the ones which are visible during the newsroom pan in the top right of the picture at every TOTH. You can easily see the ceiling of the newsroom and the large central round animated banner from outside. I also had a wander around to Duchess Street where you can clearly see the team working away at their desks and I could even see Studio E with Chris Eakin working away in front of the cameras this afternoon.
I really was blown away to be able to see all of this from the street outside! It really was exciting and I would have happily stood for ages just peering in but of course one doesn't want security getting annoyed so I didn't delay. I will most certainly be doing the tour in April however!
