They've shown that they're completely incapable of calling the channel by its proper name "BBC News", dispite it being extraordinarily easy for them to drop the word "channel" even from BBC One continuity announcements. Fact is, they should never have changed the name from "BBC News 24".

Everyone I know (including myself) still call it BBC News 24

I agree that they should have kept it as "BBC News 24", but I suspect that one reason for the change was that it kept being abbreviated to "News 24", I.e. without the BBC.

"BBC News", on its own isn't a good name, precisely because it is ambiguous.

But it hasn't worked that well, as it's now often abbreviated to 'the News channel'.

It really looked worse. They should have kept the "News 24" name not to have confusion with the other BBC News services.

Abolishing the "24" name just to unify all services as BBC News just doesn't make sense.

12pm - still in Studio E, as the One doesn't need rehearsals and produced by the News Channel.

5pm - The Five in Studio C, as you rightly say, rehearsals for the Six.

And lastly....

9pm, not 8pm - In Studio A to allow rehearsals for the Ten.

Presumably the 1pm News (and indeed every news channel shift) still needs some kind of rehearsal though - even if they use another studio for the period. In an ideal world the BBC1 bulletins would have a separate studio to the news channel but I think the compromise works better here than at TV Centre - always seems a bit random the 6 o'clock News having a different (but same) set.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered before but what is happening with BBC London. I'd have thought their set might be an option for 9pm if it's in broadcasting house. Is the virtual set the only one available at 9pm then with Newsnight presumably rehearsing in one and BBC World occupying another. I thought there were five sets in total including the virtual one.

What's the difference between the NC moving to another studio, while National News moves in, to prepare & NC staying put & National News using another studio?

Both studios now practically look the same, so why can't National News use the virtual studio, to save moving the NC?

I want to see a news bulletin, ain't too fussed about the studio it comes from!

(Is there any prerecorded stuff now in those hours thesedays?)

Just thought I'd mention incase anyone didn't know, that David Lowe's BBC News part of the Members Area has updated with a whole new BBC News 2013 section with the new music for tons of stuff.

Shame the new headline beds aren't on there but I suppose we can't be too picky! Great to see DL uploading so quickly.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered before but what is happening with BBC London.

They're moving across in June, although I understand the gallery and newsroom will continue to be in Peel Wing (shared with BBC London 94.9) than move into the main newsroom.

BBC London's existing studio on the ground floor will be the new home of The One Show.
