Just when I thought this channel couldn't get any worse...they appear to have gone 24 hours. When did this happen? And what are they filling the extra hours with? Trisha, Jerry Springer and David Letterman (all repeats). All this so soon after the morning launch and still no reduction in the amount of Judge Judy padding.
Let's have a 2am closedown and decent programmes when the channel is on air (ie. more original commissions). Thank God we're cancelliing our Sky subscription!

wasnt it part of the application for the D3&4 multiplex?

That's right, allow any fool to apply for a digital licence - don't worry about quality...
Well why is Sky One 24 hours or Cartoon Network or any other channel for that matter ? The programming may not be to your liking, but you can't actually deny that ITV2 is actually very popular. And as the 3rd most popular multi-channel station why shouldn't it go 24 hours ?
Looking at the schedule it's preferable to overnights on ITV1 anyway.

Because quality is better than quantity on any channel. I've always believed no channel should be 24 hours unless the nature of their output necessitates it (ie. BBC News 24, Sky Sports). And no, this has nothing to do with test cards!
ITV2 was struggling to maintain a 1:35pm-4am schedule before September. The increase in hours to 9:25am was a wasted opportunity with only two additions to the schedule and the more repeats padding out the rest. There was original programming at one time - Bedrock, the soap show (can't remember the name) but now more Yank trash and endless repeats of Popstars Extra.
Why do we not have legislation in place to ensure broadcasters have the necessary funding to provide a distinctive service? In the case of ITV1, reducing the crippling franchise payments would be a start.

I was just watching the J.Springer show on ITV2 & I couldn't help noticing how old fashioned the audience clothes are!

And what does one watch at midnight then?
What about all the pub crawlers who find their way home at that hour, or the kiddies who can't sleep? What are they supposed to watch?!
Im not sure I want to watch triple bills of Judge Judy and Im a Celeb get me out of here. I agree with Simon, theres no point in running 24 hours unless there is sufficient output.

But it's all subjective. I mean what about Challenge TV, do you want to watch repeats of What's My Line and Mystic Challenge throughout the night ? Probably not, or Sky One with repeats of Crash Palace and The Villa ?
It may not be your cup of tea, however what it is doing is increasing choice through the small hours. Now, you may be tucked up in bed, but there is a significant number of the population who either do not follow the conventional lifestyle or who work shifts. Why should they have blank screens after midnight ?
It's unusual for me to defend ITV but ITV2 is a free to air channel (well except on Sky but that's a different matter...). It's not fair to compare it to other 24 hour channels like Sky One, which is fully funded by subscription as well as advertising so can afford to offer better quality viewing. Even then, not everyone is convinced that that channel does offer quality but we all have our tastes.
I do sometimes watch ITV2. Some of the programmes are better than anything that can be found on it's senior terrestrial partner. Why are people so upset about repeats? It's better than watching a blank screen isn't it? Not everyone has the chance to watch the programmes the first time round (we don't sit at our TV screens 24/7) so a chance to see something again is welcome, although most of ITV2's output is not really to my taste.

Perhaps, but we're talking a few million pounds for most regions. Think of all the programmes this would make, especially regional ones. Then perhaps the ITV companies wouldn't have to resort to sticking-plaster solutions such as unified branding and closing continuity departments. Perhaps ITV could be daring again rather than milking formats for all they're worth.

Well there was never anything on if I couldn't sleep...and it soon sent me back to the land of nod!
