Indeed, I often here people mention Anglia Tonight as 'About Anglia', and also, Anglia in general, instead of ITV1.

And, also, Radio Orwell, instead of what, I think, is now Heart FM.

I suppose that geographic names are bound to stick in the mind as they are still relevant after the thing itself disappears.

Also words like 'Anglia' 'Thames' 'Southern' 'Westcountry' 'Central' have all been used by things like train companies, water authorities, electricity boards, emergency services. You'll never get 'Meridian Air Ambulance' or 'Granada Trains'

I remember Granada had their finger in quite a few pies, so to speak - motorway services, local petrol stations, television shops. Does the name still exist anywhere in the UK (well, apart from what's left of Granada Television)? I'd be surprised if there wasn't a few unrelated companies in the North West using the word Granada in their name!

I'm not sure, but when the Ford motor company launched the Ford Granada in the 1970s, the Bernstiens took them to court, unsuccessfully of course.

Border is very much known as Border in the region, rather than ITV

And it's not geographical - the meridian itself is quite a distance away

Pretty ironic seeing as Border TV, to all intents and purposes, no longer exists!

Here it's ITV1, maybe ITV Granada.

Where's here?

In Bolton many still call it Granada and very rarely ITV or ITV1

ITV should never have been renamed to ITV1. Even with the launch of the digital channels the brand could have lived alongside them, quite easily IMO.

In Scotland (ex-Scottish TV region at least) we're quite lucky as people generally refer to the channel as STV, which of course is it's actual name. I don't recall anyone saying Scottish or Scottish TV when it was called that.
