Surely they could stick on some of that Teleshopping rubbish they put on after 1am? Fine, probably not the best idea to do that straight away - esp as you have a full staff and a call centre (although most is automated) on duty - but certainly an idea after an hour or so of 'problems'.

I think selling a few bottles of No Wet WonderFoam would beat trying to sell a camera without any sound or graphics, and also stop your channel looking like a shoddy mess.

Indeed, that's just the sort of thing they should have ready for such such a circumstance. However I'm pretty sure that Screenshop is seperate and therefore they can't show it at any other time

They've done it plenty of times before when other technical problems have occurred - presumably there was a problem with that too.

This breakdown surely exposes a degree of deception at Sit Up TV. Does anybody seriously believe that thirty people called up (when the number wasn't even on screen) and bought some ropey digital camera which they were flogging with no sound, no price on screen and no indication of how to buy it? And yet the graphic flashes up momentarily showing the names of everybody who has just bought one.

Also, where abouts in Acton are they based? I used to drive past their studios and offices on Uxbridge Road quite regularly but that building is all boarded up now.

I think some people do have the capacity to remember the phone number of a shopping channel when it's not on screen. Considering the viewing figures bid tv gets, it is entirely possible a small number of people did phone up and did buy.

It doesn't sound very plausible at all.

Genuinely, you think there's enough hardcore fans who happened to be watching at that moment, who also happened to need a digital camera and were prepared to ring up knowing the procedure from memory and take part in an auction that had no price, no demonstration of said camera, no details about the camera...?

That does not add up, at all.

I think most people can remember a phone number, even more could probably remember a URL. Out of all those people, a few thousand may have been watching Bid TV, a number of them will also be after a digital camera. As for knowing the procedure, I know the procedure and I've never purchased from the Sit-up channels. They tell you during every product how to order. Phone the number, press 1, hang up. The price may well have been available online.

They never really give proper demonstrations or product specifications (this isn't QVC) but they always manage to sell products. Why would any shopping channel pretend to sell items anyway, what benefit would they get from it? A channel doing that wouldn't last very long, certainly not the ten years that Bid TV has been around.

The psychology of demand? I have no idea if they do fake buyers, but I've long suspected it. I'm not sure if it's even a legal problem to fake it - is it really a million miles away from someone selling a house to lie about how many offers they've had?

Doesn't the phone number change for each item? And aren't Online Buyers shown separately?

They used to change the number for each item but they've been using the same number for every item for a few years now.

People can also buy off their website though... and opt to "bid" when the price gets to a certain point automatically.

Besides that, I can't see how all of them went basedon phones alone.

The number was on the screen. They usually make viewers aware of some of the products coming up in advance so chances are some viewers saw it earlier when the sound was on, wanted it and got on the phone as soon as they saw it. I don't know how their system works but perhaps some of the names at the bottom of the screen are people who are on the phone but are yet to confirm their purchase.

They ditched that format some time ago, each channel has one number now.
