Nina's the first person who springs to mind, ex BBC London and has similar national news pedigree to Katie, however this is another opportunity to get a presenter who doesn't work on the national bulletins.

Emma Crosby or Kate Garraway could be offered the gig as part of a deal to leave GMTV.

Alex Hyndman would be my personal choice, she did a great job covering last year.

Nina does a good job in covering when she is needed but to have her full time arghhhhh, Alex is the way to go!! One mistake was getting rid of Matt and bringing in Donal, the second would be them employing Nina full time

Alex on Katies news on twitter "I just heard. Really enjoying presenting morning news on ITV but loved working on London Tonight too"

As discussed in the main ITV News thread, Katie Derham is leaving ITN for Radio 3 and the BBC News Channel:

Are you sure that the BBC News channel is included? Elsewhere it has been reported she is leaving news behind.

An earlier version of the Media Guardian piece said it was thought that she would also appear on the BBC NC in addition to her Proms work. That reference was later removed from the article.

God London tonight is going right downhill lately. Donal really isn't good. Katie still being there is the only thing keeping me watching really - and within the next month or two she'll be gone!

If anything surely they should have Ben as the main anchor, who is always good.
And either Nina, who's not too bad and dare I say it, even Lucy - I know most people don't like her , but she's actually not too bad!

Will be intresting to see who they announce as Katie's replacement!

Alex Hyndman should have stayed and got the main job, she was a recongnisable face ( near enough the main anchor, when Katie didn't host LT for months ) and even did the national bulletins - now if your lucky you see her doing the morning bulletin - I'm sure she could have been the next Katie if she'd stayed!

I miss Alastair!! & Matt & soon to be Katie! Crying or Very sad

I think what there decision on the new female presenter will make the biggest and final impact to the viewers and will ultimately make the decision of who will actually stay and watch Lt!

Where is Nina Hossein? Is she on maternity leave again? London Tonight used to be a good show but I find it painful to watch now. I prefer BBC London News.

Yes, and Lucy presented London Tonight. Nina might be a little more experienced/accomplished than Lucy but, of the two, I have a slight preference for Lucy (though I too will probably be watching London Tonight less frequently in the future).

Also, whilst I'm certainly not saying that he's in Alastair or Matt's league, I actually think Donal has improved a bit since his first few weeks. To be expected, perhaps, but at least it's a positive change.

Why would ITV pay the presumably large premium to have Donal presenting this show (when all I have read is poor reviews, on the whole), when there was doubtless a wealth of reasonably skilled unknowns who could have done the job?

This is ITV who can't afford to produce local news?

Insanity.
